For the most part, the Phillies didn’t have much of an injury problem in the 2020 season. A Jay Bruce here, an Adam Morgan there. Nothing was too bad. During a huge series against the Marlins, the Phillies had both JT Realmuto and Rhys Hoskins go down with injuries. JT Realmuto should be fine in a couple of days, healing up a sore hip flexor.

Hoskins wasn’t as lucky. Hoskins tried to receive a rare errant throw from JT Realmuto took his left arm into Corey Dickerson’s running lane. The result is a left UCL injury. Monday night, manager Joe Girardi confirmed that Rhys Hoskins will be going on the IL.

Hoskins’ presence will be severely missed from the Phillies’ lineup. For 23 games, Hoskins powered the Phillies’ offense. From August 18th to September 11th, he posted a slashline of .295/.404/.693. In 104 plate appearances during that span, Hoskins hit 10 home runs and 20 RBI.

When the Phillies won 10 out of 11 games earlier this season, Hoskins was a huge contributor. He played in 10 of those 11 games and slashed .366/.458/.902. He had 10 extra-base-hits, scored 10 times, and drove 12 men in.

As of now, it isn’t certain how much time Hoskins will miss. If the Phillies want any chance of making the playoffs, it will hopefully be sooner than later. In the 3 games since he got injured, the team only managed 4 total runs scored. For now, the Phillies are going to be without Hoskin’s .887 OPS in the lineup. Be prepared for either more Phil Gosselin or Alec Bohm’s debut at first base.
