After making waves today by bringing home Vinny Curry for his eighth season in midnight green, the Eagles made two corresponding roster moves.

The roster was at 81, so a switch for Curry and a cut makes sense here to bring it down to the recommended 80 that was suggested amidst the new COVID guidelines for training camp.

Bruce Hector

Bruce Hector is no stranger to this Eagles team. He originally signed with the Birds in 2018 as a UDFA out of South Florida. While Treyvon Hester would be the undrafted defensive tackle to snatch the spotlight, the 6’2, 296 lbs, DT still played in 82 defensive snaps, amassing 2 tackles, 1 QB hit and 0.5 sacks.

After an offseason under the radar, Hector was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for Safety Rudy Ford, but in a twist of fate, both players still ended up on the Eagles roster. Hector finds himself on the move once again however.

Depth at DT is plentiful and Hector only played in 53 snaps last year after Anthony Rush rose up to the occasion. The battle at the bottom of the DT depth chart just shot up in intensity, with Rush and Raequan Williams going head-to-head for what could be the final spot or a space on the practice squad.

Prince Smith

The local kid from Philadelphia was a small school standout at the University of New Hampshire. In 2016 he won the CAA defensive rookie of the year award after leading the team with five interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. He then went on to start 29 of a total 36 games over the next three seasons. Throughout his career the 5’10”, 185 pounder was a PBU machine, registering at least 8 every season.

The UDFA was poached within a heartbeat of the Draft coming to a close but with as many as eleven corners
