The Eagles announced that they have waived wide receiver Khalil Tate on Monday evening, just one day before he was set to report to Training Camp.

Tate was an interesting prospect coming out of college. At 6-foot-1, 213 pounds, he was a quarterback predominantly known for his running ability. In fact, he was of the fastest QB’s college football has ever seen. in 2018, he recorded 170 completions on 302 attempts for 2,503 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions. His rushing ability was outstanding too with 153 attempts for 1,411 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He was primed to make the same transition to wide receiver that Greg Ward Jr. once did. That will no longer be the case.

The Eagles have an open roster spot ahead of camp this week, buying them some flexibility. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see TE Alex Ellis return, who was waived to make way for the returning Jason Peters. The Eagles only have four tight ends at present and while they’re high on UDFA Noah Togiai, some extra competition from someone who exploded in his preseason debut for the team last year wouldn’t go amiss.

The Eagles have 13 receivers remaining on their roster, so there’s no shortage of pass-catching talent after this move.

Rookies report to the NovaCare Complex tomorrow, with the rest of the team arriving on July 28th. Quarterbacks and players dealing with injuries arrive on the 23rd.
