With the NHL’s return-to-play plan in place, only one piece of the puzzle remained – deciding and scheduling the exhibition games.

For the Flyers, they will be dropped into an intense matchup right away. No time to slowly get up to speed or rotate heavily in order to keep players fresh for the round-robin matchups – Philadelphia will face their arch-nemesis four days before they open their round-robin play.

The Flyers will face the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 28th at 4PM EST. Circle it in your calendars.

Sure, it’s a dress rehearsal for the cup run that the team will hope to embark on, but there’s nothing light about a grudge match against your most hated team. This will be the perfect game for the orange and black to sink their teeth into and pick right up where they left off before the season came to a grinding halt.

The Flyers split the series with Pittsburgh 2-2 in 2019, a year in which they of course rallied back from what felt like an impossible 3-1 deficit in a Stadium Series game to win 4-3 in overtime.

Team training camps opened on Monday, with the Flyers having already returned to the Skate Zone in some capacity for individual training. They will then travel to Toronto on July 26th after close to two weeks of camp and will face the Pens on the 28th.

Their round-robin schedule looks like this with times to be confirmed:

August 2nd: @ Boston Bruins
August 6th: Vs Washington Capitals
August 9th: Vs Tampa Bay Lightning

The 12 Eastern Conference playoff teams will play at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, while the 12 Western Conference franchises will clash at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
