The Eagles have had a very impressive haul this offseason at several positions. Some groups have been stacked with incredible talent while others are looking great due to their potential but what happens now to the players who stood out last season? Two practice squad heroes who stepped up when the lights got too bright for the actual stars or when the injuries continued to pile up may now be on the outside looking in. Let’s take a look at just where they currently stand as training camp draws closer.

Boston Scott

Boston Scott had a very impressive showing last season. His buzz started to grow during the offseason as he shined bright during training camp but the return of Darren Sproles quickly dimmed that light. After Sproles and Corey Clement went down, Scott came in and added an extra burst to the RB group. While Sanders grew into the role of lead back due to Jordan Howard’s phantom stinger, it was very clear that Scott was RB2 at that point.

He really exploded onto the scene in Week 14 against the New York Giants as he led the team in total yards with 128 total scrimmage yards and one touchdown. Scott ran for 59 yards on 10 attempts while averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also had 6 receptions for 69 yards. Scott’s dual-threat ability adds another layer to the offense. The Eagles were lucky to have two backs who could line up in the slot or in the backfield.

While Scott isn’t a long shot to make the roster, the question is how much playing time will he get? The Eagles re-signed Corey Clement and have been rumored to be searching for a veteran presence to add to the mix. They also have a big bruising back in Michael Warren waiting in the wings and while he may not be taking Scott’s spot, the question still looms just how will Pederson and company use the unique talent of Scott.

Greg Ward Jr

The Eagles drafted three receivers and added Marquise Goodwin via trade. DeSean Jackson’s roster spot may be up in the air but for now, he’s here. Alshon has been promised to be a part of the offense this season and JJ Arcega-Whiteside is looking to shake the draft bust talk. While Ward was more than just a savior last season, he has a unique advantage over his in-house competition. Let’s not forget that Ward is a pro receiver who was a successful college QB. He sees the game from the eyes of QB which led to his ability to be in the right place at the right time last season. That’s a rarity for receivers on this team.

Over the final four games of a season where the Eagles couldn’t afford to drop another game, the Texas native recorded 21 receptions, 209 yards, and 1 TD, which came against the Redskins in that iconic 4th quarter moment.

Wentz and Ward built a unique connection towards the end of the season and I’m sure it hasn’t stopped there. Ward could provide consistent play from the slot and has definitely earned a roster spot this season but the Eagles showed that they have a very dire need for speed. His chances look slim right now and could get even slimmer if JJAW, Watkins, and Hightower find their footing early on.
