In a word, this news is utterly “remarkable.” On Wednesday, December 11th of 2019, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that Oskar Lindblom was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma. Today, July 2nd of 2020, Lindblom completed his cancer treatments. For the 23-year-old forward, this is the greatest victory. He walked down the hallway of Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center for the final time and rang the bell.
Oskar Lindblom spoke with the host of “Flyers Daily,” Jason Myrtetus, after his last visit at Penn Medicine. In speaking with Myrtetus, Lindblom stated what prompted him to get checked out by a specialist. After experiencing leg pain in December, Lindblom credited his girlfriend, Alma Lindqvist, for encouraging him to see a doctor.
“In the start, I wasn’t really sure about it, but my girlfriend told me ‘you have to check it up.’ I did, luckily, it ended up pretty good too about my chemo.”

After gifting an Oskar Lindblom home jersey to the doctors and nurses on staff, Lindblom expressed his gratitude for everyone that supported him during his treatment. The hockey fans, family, teammates, and specialists that have helped him along the way mean the world to him. All the encouragement that Lindblom received kept him calm during his treatments.
“It’s like a birthday, Christmas, all of those holidays at the same time. It feels awesome to be done. I can’t wait to get back to a normal life again and start feel like I’m living.”

On June 23rd, 2020, Oskar Lindblom began skating with his teammates. He won’t be with the Philadelphia Flyers when they resume play on July 30th, 2020. The 2020-2021 season, likely to start around late December or early January, is fair game for Lindblom.
