In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, it’s always warming to see sporting stars give back to their communities. Tobias Harris is the latest Sixer to do exactly that.

Harris plans to help support 12 families in the City of Philadelphia with mortgage assistance, through the ‘Habitat for Humanity of Philadelphia’ scheme, while providing 250 frontline workers with lunches from Chick-Fil-A, and donating 20,000 children’s books.

Habitat for Humanity of Philadelphia provide shelter and stability for families in need through affordable housing while also helping with critical repairs and restructures.

“This is a huge blessing and means one less thing to worry about. I’m grateful and this has eased my mind and my worries. It is so amazing that Tobias would be that generous,” said Sharon, mother of two school-age boys and Habitat homeowner in West Philadelphia, via the Sixers’ official press release.

Corinne O’Connell, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, stated the following:

“This is a gamechanger. We cannot thank Tobias enough for this incredible gift at an absolutely critical time for our families. His support will provide mortgage relief for Habitat Homeowners and allow them to focus on what’s important—keeping their families safe, warm, dry and healthy. It also shows the deep commitment that Tobias has to Philadelphia and Habitat’s vision of a city where everyone has a decent place to live.”

“We’re experiencing one of the biggest crises in the history of humankind,” the Sixers’ star said. “Being able to provide kindness to people putting their lives at risk in hospitals and supporting Philadelphia families in dire need of help is an important responsibility for me.”

Harris will also host virtual “Tobias Lit Labs” for young students to enhance their education in an entertaining fashion.

It’s amazing to see such acts of generosity and selflessness at a time like this. Harris is a model player on-and-off the court.
