Eagles draft picks who became the cream of the crop: 2009

With only 10 days left until the 2020 NFL Draft, I feel its only right to count it down with the top pick of each of the last ten draft classes. I mean, why not?! It’s time to bring those good vibes as opposed to remembering the likes of Marcus Smith and Donnell Pumphrey. We’re going to kick things off with 2009 and there’s only one man worthy of this title.

LeSean McCoy headlined a draft that included WR Jeremy Maclin but McCoy’s production was second to none. The Eagles took McCoy with the 53rd overall pick and the rest of the story wrote itself, literally. In his rookie season, McCoy played in all 16 games but only started 4 games while racking up 637 rushing yards on 155 carries.

HE then took the mantle as the lead back in the season that followed as he led the team in rushing yards with 1,080 on 207 carries. It only took McCoy six seasons to become the Eagles all-time leader in rushing yards with 6,792 yards. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry with the franchise while totaling 44 rushing touchdowns.

His quick feet and burst made him a fan favorite even after being traded away by Philly’s most hated coach, Chip Kelly. McCoy once headlined a team that could’ve been much more with DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Mike Vick. With dynamic cuts and elusive jukes, LeSean McCoy has turned into one of the NFL’s most prolific backs of all time.

While McCoy is still in the league today and currently waiting to sign with a team after the draft, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he ended up back in midnight green. Ever since his departure, the franchise hasn’t allowed anyone to wear the number 25. That’s the kind of impact McCoy had on this City.

Time will only tell if another running back selected with that very same draft pick 10 years later will have that same impact.
