What we learned from the game that thwarted the Flyers win streak

The Flyers win streak could not reach ten games as they ran into a brick wall in Tuukka Rask. The Flyers outplayed the Bruins for two of the three periods however, Rask outplayed everyone else backstopping the Bruins to a 2-0 lead.

The game was a battle of two really good teams and the Flyers had the majority of the scoring chances. Rask would not be cracked and appeared as if every other player on the ice was in slow motion. I can’t say enough of just how good his performance was. Rask was prepared for everything the Flyers forwards threw at him.

The Game went scoreless through almost two periods. The Flyers had multiple chances that most likely would have scored on a lesser human. Rask simply was amazing and on another level. I mean this save on Travis Konecny is just rude:

Rask didn’t stop there. He had multiple saves on really good scoring chances. he Flyers ended up peppering Rask with 36 shot attempts, who stopped them all for his 50th shut out of his career. That puts him at 30th all-time, tied with his teammate, Jaroslav Halak. Here is another great save from last night:

Takeaways: Hart again shines and there was a Ghost Sighting.

Carter Hart is good too. The Flyers stole a game from the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday when Hart was amazing in the net. It is fitting that the Bruins netminder stole a game to end the streak. That being said, Hart was really good. The first goal he let up was through a point blast from the point through a ridiculous screen. The second goal was one he would say he should have had. However, Patrice Bergeron’s shot was so quick there was little reaction time. Hart played really well, stopping 27 of 29 shots.

Shayne Gostisbehere started for the first time on February 2nd. He didn’t appear rusty and looked really good on the power play. He was a -1 while logging just over 16 minutes of ice time It was nice to see Ghost back on the ice doing Ghost things:

When it Rains it Pours

The Flyers reported that Phil Myers will be out for four weeks with a fractured knee cap. That was the reason Ghost got the start. Now the Flyers just announced that Nate Thompson will be out for a minimum of two weeks with a knee sprain. Due to these injuries, Connor Bunnaman and Mark Friedman were recalled from Lehigh Valley.

The Flyers tough week continues Thursday as they travel to Tampa to take on the Lightening. The Flyers look to avoid the season series sweep at the hand of the Lightening. This will be a good bounce-back game as the Flyers will need to stop a downward slide that can happen after a winning streak. Look for the Flyers to get back to their scoring ways, as they did after they were shut out last time. The game is set to start at 7 on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
