The Sixers just can’t seem to catch a break.

With right around 50 seconds left in the first quarter, Joel Embiid got tangled up with Cavaliers’ center Ante Zizic. He came away from the collision instantly grabbing at his left shoulder, clearly in pain.

Embiid initially attempted to remain in the game, but after missing two free throws he was quickly subbed out and headed off to the locker room.

Embiid would return to the bench a few minutes later, however he was clearly still in immense discomfort. After just a few moments, Embiid was escorted back to the locker room by the Sixers’ medical staff. He would later be ruled out of the contest with a left shoulder sprain.

Shoulder sprains are tricky and unpredictable. They can take a few days to heal, or even a few weeks. The Sixers are obviously shorthanded as it is with Ben Simmons battling a nerve injury.
