Philadelphia: During the first season under a new resume, there are bound to be some ups and downs and that is what the Saint Josephs Hawks are going through. On Tuesday night, they took on VCU from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Josephs University. The Hawks came into the game with 4-14 (0-5 in A-10) and in their last game, took down Penn. VCU made the trip to Philly with 13-5 (3-2 in A-10) after a win over St Bonaventure on the same day.

Notes:
During the 2018-19 season, the Hawks would fall to the Rams in their only meeting after beating them during the 2017-18 season at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks are still looking for the first conference win under first year coach Billy Lange

How the game went:

Both teams made three pointers to get the scoring started, but it was the Rams who found themselves thriving defensively, forcing costly turnovers and at one point building up a 13-point lead. The Hawks were down 39-26 at halftime.

Could the Hawks make a comeback? Unfortunately not. VCU made clutch shots and the Hawks simply couldn’t finish their opportunities. The Hawks would attempt to cut into the Rams lead as they got it down to 10 with 8:13 left. But the Rams answered the push and went for the KO, taking down the Hawks 73-60.

What comes next:
The Hawks will look to get back to winning basketball as they take on George Washington on January 25 while VCU will continute their Philly tour when they battle LaSalle also on January 25.
