Philly College Hoops Recap & Preview for January 20-26

Conference play in College Basketball is heating up and things are getting interesting. Let’s take a look at last week’s results, and preview what’s happening this week.

Temple

The Owls, under first year coach Aaron Mckie, are 10-7,  2-4 in conference play. They went 1-1 last week, and took down number 16 Wichita State, but subsequently falling to SMU.

This week, the Owls will do battle with Cincinnati on January 22 at 7PM and then head into a Big 5 battle with the Penn Quakers on Saturday at 2PM from the Palestra.

Saint Josephs

The Hawks, lead by first year coach Billy Lange, are 4-14, 0-5 in Atlantic 10 play. They went 1-1 with a loss to Rhode Island & a win over Big 5 Rival Penn.

This week, the Hawks will host VCU on January 21, and then battle George Washington on the road.

Penn

The Quakers, under coach Steve Donahue, are 7-7 overall, and 0-2 in Ivy League play. Last week, they would go on to lose to big 5 Rival Saint Josephs. This week, the Quakers will battle the Temple Owls at the Palestra on January 25.

LaSalle:
The Explorers, lead by year 2 of Ashley Howard, are 10-7 overall & 1-4 in Atlantic 10 play. Last week, the Explorers would fall to Rhode Island, going 0-1 for the week. This week, they will take on Richmond on January 22 & then battle VCU on January 25 at home.

Drexel:
The Dragons, under coach Zach Spiker, are 12-8 overall & 5-2 in CAA conference play. Last week saw the Dragons go 2-0 with wins over Elon & William & Mary. This week, the Dragons will battle Northeastern on January 23 & then take on Hofstra. Both contests are on the road.

Villanova:
Jay Wright and the number 9 Wildcats are 14-3 overall, & 4-1 in the Big East. They took down DePaul & UConn this past week. This week, the Wildcats will battle Butler at home on January 21, & then travel to Providence to take on the Friars.
