Report: Eagles part ways with two underwhelming coaches

After stating that ‘they will be back next year’, just one day ago, a report has surfaced indicating the opposite. Per CBS HQ’s Jonathan Jones, the Eagles are indeed letting WR Coach Carson Walch go after just one season.

And he’s not the only one. Offensive coordinator Mike Groh is also reportedly on the way out, per Adam Schefter.

Carson Walch

This doesn’t really come as a surprise overall. Things started to turn sour when Walch called Mack Hollins his ‘highest-graded player’ despite the fact he produced next to nothing offensively.

There does need to be some credit, however. Greg Ward, Deontay Burnett, and Robert Davis all flashed glimpses of hope and traits that the starters simply didn’t when called into action, but it probably wasn’t enough to overwrite a total lack of ball-tracking from Nelson Agholor, or a seemingly slower Alshon Jeffery. Oh, and the drops. There were a lot of drops.

The Eagles’ leading receiver in 2019 had 490 yards.

To me, it made sense to allow Groh back into his role as WR coach, but the Eagles may have other ideas.

Mike Groh

His habit of saying the wrong thing at the worst possible time caught up with him. From the Golden Tate trade, to an offense that looked void of any real signs of life for the opening nine weeks of the season, Groh did redeem himself late on by helping to remold the offense to fit around Carson Wentz, but it was too little, too late.

The Eagles ranked inside the top half of the league offensively, but it just didn’t feel that way when watching the dysfunctional unit run. It was clear some fresh input was needed.

There are plenty of candidates out there for both WR coach and OC and they don’t have to follow the pattern of internal hires. Stay locked into Philly Sports Network for the latest updates on a developing story.
