In a slightly surprising announcement, former Eagles running back and Super Bowl 52 champion Jay Ajayi has decided to take his talents in a different direction. The Brit has been unveiled as the Philadelphia Union’s eMLS competitior.

The Union are the current eMLS Cup champions and will have some surprise talent to help defend their crown in a competition that kicks off on Friday with the ‘League One Series’.

Ajayi has been known as a big FIFA fan, appearing on popular YouTube Series ‘FIFA and Chill’ among several others.

“Of course, I think I’m the best.” The running back who re-signed with the Eagles for a brief stint this year told reporters at a conference on Tuesday afternoon. “I think I’m great, but these are guys that this is what they really do. This is all they do. It’ll be interesting to see how I hold up, but I’m excited for the challenge and it’ll be fun to see how the team that I have chosen play in the game.”

“Jay has the fight, grit and winning mentality that Philadelphia is known for, and it quickly became clear to us that his love of the city, soccer, and gaming made him a great fit for our esports team” said Doug Vosik, Union Chief Marketing Officer. “The Philadelphia Union is a leader and innovator in eMLS and has a decorated past, having brought home the League Series 1, League Series 2, and eMLS Cup trophies last year. Signing Jay is another groundbreaking move in eMLS and we are excited to see what he can do.”

As a fan of both Soccer and e-sports, it’s amazing to see Ajayi involved in this, hopefully drawing a lot of new eyes to the exciting levels of competition produced. It’s even more special given that he’s joined the Philadelphia Union. Maybe a Super Bowl 52 ring isn’t the last piece of silverware Ajayi will win…
