According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are set to make quite a significant roster move on Monday afternoon.

Howard has been out since November 3rd with a stinger injury, missing six consecutive games. In his absence, rookie running back Miles Sanders has stepped up to the plate and handled everything thrown his way in exceptional fashion, to the point where a ‘Rookie of the Year’ argument could at least be made. That’s not to say Howard’s return won’t benefit the offense.

Prior to his injury, the former Chicago Bear was averaging his highest ‘yards per carry’ (4.4) since 2017 and was on track to set a new career-high in touchdowns. He may not reach that milestone this year, but Howard’s decimating north-south style has already proven to be the perfect complement to the elusive style of Miles Sanders and being able to run a more creative offense as a result will only boost the production of the backfield ahead of a potential playoff run where those tough yards that Howard can pick up would be key.

Jay Ajayi meanwhile didn’t do very much during his second tenure as an Eagle. He had 10 carries for 30 yards and looked a significantly different back to the one that barrelled his way through a playoff run two years ago. With Boston Scott in the fold and proving to be the perfect Darren Sproles replacement, there’s no need to keep Ajayi around.
