Four letters have described the type of season JT Realmuto had in 2020.

B.C.I.B.

Best Catcher In Baseball

Phillies fans have known that as a fact for a while. Today, MLB confirmed it. In the first ever All-MLB Team voting, JT Realmuto was named Fist Team All-MLB as the catcher.

In 2019, JT Realmuto set new career highs for doubles (36), homers (25), RBI (83), runs scored (92), walks (41), and slugging % (.493). Those numbers led Realmuto to winning the NL Silver Slugger for a catcher. That’s just for offense.

Defensively, Realmuto was named Rawling Gold Glove award winner for NL catchers. According to Baseball Reference, Realmuto recorded 11 defensive runs saved with a 47% caught stealing percentage. Let’s take a look of those defensive highlights.

Those 3 caught stealings happened in 1 game. Plus that wink seals it.

With both amazing defense and improved offense, JT Realmuto garnered NL MVP votes. Granted, he finished 14th in that voting, but it showed that Realmuto was one of the best players in 2019.

Yamani Grandal was named 2nd Team All-MLB. Grandal had a great offensive 2019 with an .848 OPS with 28 home runs. His less than spectacular defense made Realmuto the easy choice for First Team All-MLB.
