The Eagles lost to the Dolphins. Ok, let’s stop talking about it now.

Sitting at 5-7 on the year, the Eagles are surprisingly still ijn the hunt for the division title thanks to the equally abysmal Dallas Cowboys.

To win the division, the Eagles must win every game from here on out.  All four games are division games and a 4-0 record would make their record 9-7.  If the Cowboys also finish 9-7, the Eagles will hold the tiebreaker.

The playoff push starts tonight.

Before we go into the game, let’s take a look at the 2-10 Giants offseason and where they rank so far.

Key additions:

Quarterback Daniel Jones (first round draft pick),
Safety Jabrill Peppers (trade – Browns),
Guard Kevin Zeitler (trade – Browns),
Wide receiver Golden Tate (free agency – Eagles),
Defensive end Markus Golden (free agency – Cardinals),
Safety Antoine Bethea (free agency – Cardinals),
Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence (first round draft pick),
Cornerback Deandre Baker (first round draft pick)

Key departures:

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (trade – Browns),
Defensive end Olivier Vernon (trade – Browns),
Safety Landon Collins (free agency – Redskins),
Safety Jabrill Peppers (recently placed on IR)

NFL Ranks
  • Points per game: 19.2 (25th)
  • Yards per game: 316.7 (25th)
  • Passing yards per game: 221.2 (21st)
  • Rushing yards per game: 95.5 (24th)
  • Points allowed per game: 28.3 (29th)
  • Yards allowed per game: 372.8 (23rd)
  • Passing yards allowed per game: 258.6 (25th)
  • Rushing yards per game: 114.3 (20th)

The Giants have had an absolutely atrocious season as they’ve transitioned to the “Danny Dimes” era. But we don’t need to talk about Daniel Jones at length today because an old friend of the Eagles will be back under center tonight.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Eli Manning comes back to Philadelphia as the starter for the Giants after sitting that past ten games for New York. Manning started the season for the Giants but went 0-2 before being benched for the rookie.

But due to an ankle injury to Jones, Manning is back to try and right some wrongs against the Eagles.

Manning is 10-20 against the Eagles in his career. He has lost the last five meetings against them and his last win was during Wentz’s first career game versus the Giants.

Manning averages 260 yards passing, 1.7 touchdowns, and one interception against the Eagles and has been sacked an average of two times per game.  He has an under 60% completion rate against the team and has six straight games with an interception. Eli just loves giving gifts to the Eagles.

After ten games off, it seems like a lock for at least a couple of turnovers.

His career record is also 116-116. Time for the Eagles to get him under .500.

Out of the shadow

Rookie Eagles running back Miles Sanders was star Giants running back Saquon Barkley’s back up for two years at Penn State.

In 2016, Barkey rushed for 1,496 yards and had 402 yards receiving while Sanders had 184 yards rushing and 24 yards receiving.  In 2017, Barkley had 1,271 yards rushing and 632 yards receiving while Sanders had 191 yards rushing and 30 yards receiving. Then Barkley bolted for the NFL and was selected second overall by the Giants in the 2018 draft, which left Sanders as the man in Penn State.

In his only year as the starter at Penn State, Sanders rushed for 1,274 yards and had 139 yards receiving. While that was going on, Barkley was going through a Rookie of the Year campaign where he rushed for 1,307 yards, had 11 rushing touchdowns, and had 721 receiving yards on 91 receptions.  Quite the rookie year.

In Sanders’ rookie year so far, he has 879 yards from scrimmage, 520 rushing and 359 receiving, and three total touchdowns. He is 130 scrimmage yards away from breaking the Eagles rookie record, currently held by DeSean Jackson.

This season, in 494 snaps, Barkley has 835 yards from scrimmage, 4.8 yards per touch, and three touchdowns. In 426 snaps, Sanders has 879 yards from scrimmage, 5.9 yards per touch, and three touchdowns.

Sanders has become the Eagles’ most reliable receiving threat this season.  He’s also getting much better at finding the running lanes and cutting through the holes. It’s safe to say he’s out of Saquon’s shadow.
