According to Jimmy Kempski, the Eagles brought in a familiar face for a workout today. That man was Jordan Matthews and this should come as no surprise.

DeSean Jackson underwent surgery today and may be out for the remainder of the season and the struggles across the board at wide receiver have been well documented. Alshon and Agholor have been woeful at times this year, while the role-playing Mack Hollins and JJ Arcega-Whiteside have been invisible.

Believe it or not, Matthews averaged 15 yards per reception last year during his second stint with the Eagles and in my opinion, at least, showed just how far he’d come since his first rodeo. Matthews was asked to play all over the line of scrimmage and actually fights through contact (CC: Agholor).

The 6’3, 212 lbs, wideout wasn’t just instrumental in the rise of Carson Wentz, but his impact stretched backed to the Chip Kelly era, where he put up 8 touchdowns in each. In the rookie season of a franchise quarterback, Matthews built a rapport with Carson Wentz that went beyond football, to the point where the wideout had actually been given one of Carson’s dog’s puppies. He scored 3 touchdowns that year to go with 804 yards and although that was a little down in comparison to 2015, there were an abundance of changes and a severe lack of playmakers, with Wentz directing traffic over the middle to his two security blankets, Ertz and Matthews.

He’s best friends with Carson Wentz, he knows the offense, he’s always produced and he’ll be a lot more productive than arguably any other Eagles receiver right now…
