What if the Eagles selected Dalvin Cook in the 2017 NFL Draft?

2019

The Draft picture may have changed somewhat with a pick ever so slightly lower down the pecking order, but would it have stopped them trading for Dillard in the way they did? Nope. Would Miles Sanders have been drafted?

Uh…..

The Eagles were still almost bound to lose Ajayi to free agency, but with two rings, there’s a chance he’d stay for another rodeo. If not, it’s back to the old draft board. So, what if they trade pick 53 to the Bengals, jumping the Bears? Cincy picked one ahead of the Eagles in round 2, but what if they wanted to double-dip and add someone like CB Lonnie Johnson?

According to the NFL Draft trade value chart, pick 53 is worth 370 points.

A pick swap would take 5 off that.

Pick 73 is worth 230 (Devin Singletary, my sweet prince, come on down)
Pick 136 (their second in round) is worth 38. Did somene say….Riley Ridley?
And a fourth-rounder next year for good measure? I’m sold.

Nice doing business with you.

Now that’s settled, the Eagles roll into 2019 with a backfield of…

RB1 Dalvin Cook
RB2 Devin Singletary
RB3 Corey Clement
RB4 Darren Sproles

Anyone else flustered? Just me? Okay.

In 2019, Cook has over 700 total yards from scrimmage and 5 touchdowns. Devin Singletary? He has 127 yards but is averaging 12.7 yards per carry.

Salivating yet?

It’s early days, but the idea of a backfield so crazily different all because of a few chips falling differently is a lot of fun. Of course, the Eagles aren’t exactly in bad stead now. Jordan Howard has five scores of his own and has built on his reputation as a human bowling ball, while the rookie teething problems of Miles Sanders are slowly being forgotten as he flashes the elite traits that landed him in Philadelphia to begin with.

Still, it’s always fun to wonder…

Either way, this team should easily be pushing for another NFC Championship appearance and maybe even something a little more adventurous. Two Championships in three years has a nice ‘ring’ to it…
