The good, bad, and ugly from Eagles preseason loss to Ravens

The Eagles have just wrapped up an ugly loss to the Ravens, after Mother Nature took control in the fourth quarter and refused to see the rest of the game.

The Eagles “starting” offense looked off, mustering a big goose egg in the first half.

However, if you look past the box score, you’ll see many bright spots for the Eagles.

The Good

Corey Clement made his preseason debut and rushed seven times for 36 yards. Not an outstanding rushing average, but he showed that his legs are healthy. He was also very good on the blitz pick ups all night and sound in pass protection.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside had his coming out party, catching eight passes for 104 yards and this touchdown:

There’s A LOT to like about the rookie, and don’t be surprised if he has a huge role this season.

Josh McCown also had a very solid game for his first game with the Eagles.  He started out only 2 for 5 but ended the game 15 for 19 for a total of 192 yards and two touchdowns. Not bad for a guy just back from retirement.

Vaitai continues to prove that his calling was to be an NFL guard. His play at tackle left a lot to be desired, but his play at guard has all Eagles fans wanting more:

He has had a strong preseason and has a lot of fans optimistic about his play if he has to step in for an injured Brandon Brooks.

The Bad

Cody Kessler again had an abysmal game.

He was only 3 for 5 for 34 yards and took another terrible sack.  Take a look at how his preseason drives have ended:

Safe to say he’s not going to be on the roster.

The Eagles backup defensive backs also had a terrible game, often getting beat on simple routes. Jeremiah McKinnon, Tre Sullivan, Deiondre’ Hall, and Josh Hawkins were often seen looking clueless when it came to tracking the football. On a team where the cornerback situation is fluid, and the team trading for a safety, these four players didn’t make a name for themselves in hopes to secure a roster spot.

Stefen Wisniewski has had a pretty poor camp coming into today’s game, and seeing that team played undrafted free agent Nate Herbig at center before bringing in Wiz says a lot about his status on the team. Wisniewski’s snaps this preseason have been all over the place and, after today’s game, it’s safe to say that Herbig has jumped him on the depth chart.

The Ugly

Clayton Thorson attempted one pass before Mother Nature decided it was time to stop the game.  The real downside here is that the Clayton Thorson song by Liam Jenkins is probably dead now.  Too bad.
