If you didn’t see it last night, Andrew McCutchen injured his leg in the first inning against the Padres. Ian Kinsler deked McCutchen on an infield pop up and got him caught in a rundown. McCutchen grabbed his knee and needed help to get off the field.

Andrew McCutchen is going to be hard to replace. He was leading all leadoff men in On Base Percentage and led the entire National League in walks with 43. On top of that, he had 10 home runs.

There is some silver lining to the dark clouds over Philadelphia. Because of the injury, The Phillies are calling up top outfield prospect Adam Haseley. MLB.com ranks Haseley as the Phillies 3rd best prospect.

Haseley started the season at AA Reading and was recently promoted to AAA Lehigh Valley. In his 6 games with the Iron Pigs, Haseley had a .320 average with a .440 slugging percentage.

It looks like Haseley will be thrown right into the fire, as Scott Kingery is the only other player on the roster that has played center field this season (beside Sean Rodriguez after the McCutchen injury).

The Phillies started out with ok center field depth this season. Odubel Herrera started in center, Aaron Altherr was the backup, and Scott Kingery had started to get some reps at center.

Altherr is now with the Mets. Odubel probably never wear a Phillies uniform again. Kingery has been alright at center, but Haseley allows Kingery to play 3rd in place of Maikel Franco who has been struggling since May.
