Philadelphia College Hoops Preview &Recap: Holiday Edition

Philadelphia: As the entire nation gets ready for the Christmas holiday, there is some good College Basketball that will be played this weekend featuring several local teams.

 

Temple:
Fran Dunphy & the Temple Owls are riding high after their OT win over Davidson last week at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and now they will get ready to battle with city rival the Drexel Dragons on Saturday as this game will be played at the Palestra, this will also mark Fran Dunphy final time coaching at the Palestra as he will retire at the end of the season.

After Temple plays Drexel, they will open American Athletic Conference play against UCF on January 2 in Orlando.

 

Villanova:
Jay Wright & the Villanova Wildcats are on a 2 game losing streak after their loss to Kansas last week, The Wildcats now get ready to do battle with former Big East Rival in Uconn from Madison Square Garden on Saturday on CBS at 12:30 PM

After Villanova plays Uconn, they will enter Big East Conference play as they host DePaul on January 2.

 

Penn:
Steve Donahue & the Penn Quakers are still on the high of beating Villanova at the Palestra on December 11 and now they will hit the road for an interesting battle with New Mexico on Saturday

After their battle with New Mexico, the Quakers will stay on the road for a battle with Toledo on December 29.

 

Drexel:
Zach Spiker & the Drexel Dragons are coming off a loss to Uconn on Tuesday night and now head into a city battle with the Temple Owls, the game is at the Palestra & it is a Drexel Home game.

After the Dragons get done with the Owls, they will open Colonial Athletic Association play as they take on Northeastern on December 28.

 

Saint Joseph’s:
Phil Martelli & the Saint Joseph’s Hawks have not played a game since their loss to Villanova on December 8, not sure how the team will respond from being off for a week as they now head into an interesting battle with 2018 Final Four team Loyola-Chicago on Saturday. This game is being played at the Palestra.

After this game, the Hawks will take on Wanger on December 29 and then open Atlantic 10 conference play on January 3 vs  George Mason at home.

 

LaSalle:
Ashley Howard & LaSalle Explorers are not off to the start that they wanted and still looking for their first win on the season, could it be this weekend as they take on Alabama A&M on December 21 from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City in the Boardwalk Battle, they will take on either Towson or Tulane on Saturday.

After they take part in the Boardwalk Battle, the Explorers will open Atlantic 10 Conference play at UMass on January 5.

 

Penn State:
Patrick Chambers & the Penn State Nittany Lions are looking to close out 2018 after taking down Duquesne on Wednesday, December 19, the Nittany Lions stay on the road for a battle with Alabama on December 21 at 9 PM on SEC NETWORK.

After they play Alabama, the Nittany Lions will remain on the road with the battle with UMBC before they open up Big Ten Conference play on January 3 at Michigan.
