Penn and Nova heating up as conference play nears: Philly College Hoops primer (Dec 10-16)

Philadelphia: As most of college basketball finishes up their non-conference schedule to get ready for conference play. Let’s take a look at what we have this week for Temple, Villanova, Saint Joseph’s, Penn, Drexel, LaSalle.

 

Temple:
Fran Dunphy and the Temple Owls enter this off a hard-fought battle against the defending national champion Villanova Wildcats last week as Villanova would hand Temple their 2nd loss on the season. Temple now gets ready for a home battle against UMass on Wednesday, December 12 at 7 PM on ESPN3. After UMass, they will take on Davidson in the Air Force Reserve Boardwalk Classic from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City NJ on Saturday, December 15 at 4:30 PM on ESPN3.

 

Villanova:

Jay Wright & the Villanova Wildcats have a very good week which saw them take down two Big 5 Rivals Saint Joseph’s & Temple.

This Week, the Wildcats will continue with Big 5 play as they take on Penn on Tuesday, December 11 at the Palestra & then head on the road for a Final Four Rematch with Kansas on Saturday at 12 PM on ESPN.

 

Penn:
Steve Donahue & the Penn Quakers went 2-0 last week which saw wins over Miami Hurricanes & big 5 Rival LaSalle

This week, the Quakers will stay in Big 5 play as they take on the defending national champion Villanova Wildcats on December 11 at 7 PM from the Palestra.

 

LaSalle:

The start of the 2018-19 season for first-year coach Ashley Howard & LaSalle Explorers as they are still looking for their first win on the season as they fell to Bucknell & Penn.

The next game for LaSalle won’t be until December 21 when they take on Alabama A&M in the Boardwalk battle from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City NJ.

Drexel:
Zach Spiker & the Drexel Dragon went 1-1 last week with a win over Loyola Maryland & loss to UMBC.

The Dragons will look to get back to their winning ways as they take on Quinnipiac on Sunday at 6PM from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

 

Saint Joseph’s:
Phil Martelli & the Saint Joseph’s Hawks would go 1-1 last week with a win over Princeton & loss to Villanova.

The Hawks next game won’t take place until December 22 when they take on 2018 Final Four team Loyola Chicago from the Palestra.
