The Eagles have made an exciting announcement tonight. According to an official statement from the team, David Akers will be inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame on October 23rd on a Monday Night Football contest with the Redskins.

Akers is the team’s all-time leader in regular-season (188) and postseason games played (19) and spent 12 season with the team. During that time, he earned five Pro Bowl appearances, setting a record among Eagles kickers. Akers still leads the team in both regular-season and postseason points.

“David Akers embodies everything we look for in a player both on and off the field,” said Eagles Chairman/CEO  Jeffery Lurie. “He was talented, reliable, tough, and of course clutch. He played a major role in the success of this franchise during his time here, but he also loved this city and our fans and he made a tremendous impact in the community. We are proud to enshrine him alongside the greatest figures in Eagles history.”

There is no doubting that Akers is one of the greats who deserves to be recognized by the team for which he gave so much. From his “Davis Akers Kicks for Kids Foundation” that was setup to assist families with unexpected emergency needs, to his emphatic and consistent efforts on the field, Akers is a true Philadelphia legend.
