By now Jake Metz is a name that is familiar to many Philadelphia fans. The former Philadelphia Soul Defensive end signed with the Eagles around this time last year but was waived a few weeks later, taking his talents to China and then back to the States as he caught on with the Bills practice squad. Well Metz is back after an impressive but brief preseason last year for the Eagles in the hopes of doing the same tomorrow night.

The 26-year old possesses a 6’6, 265 pound frame that screams explosiveness…something he demonstrated emphatically last season in the AFL. Recording 29 tackles, eight sacks, forcing two fumbles and a further three pass breakups in his final season was enough for Metz to be named the AFL’s Defensive Lineman Of The Year. He also led the league in tackles for a loss.

Metz also played a huge role in the team’s ArenaBowl victory, stripping the ball away from Rattlers QB Nick Davila at a vital point in the game.

Metz adds a body on the edge for the Eagles tomorrow night. With the starters likely absent, it would leave a hefty amount of work for Means and McCalister. It’s a huge mountain to climb but with Metz shattering the Shippensburg single season record for sacks in College, his systematic fit and previous experience may just see him conquer the climb if given the chance. The Practice squad is a very realistic possibility for Metz, especially if the Eagles likes him enough to bring Metz back to the NovaCare Complex.
