This week around MLS, week 11: Recapping all the games, goals and glory

Week 11 saw some great competitions, and some blowouts in week 11! Lets take a look at all the action This week around MLS, week 11!

 

Columbus Crew SC 1 Toronto FC 2

Columbus looked to take down Toronto mighty Toronto in a mid-week battle, and almost did. The Crew went up 1-0 in the first half thanks to a Higuain penalty. They held Toronto in check for most of the match, but their legs tired late on. Toronto found the equalizer in the 81st minute, and than the go ahead in the 90th minute. Both goals came from super-sub Tosaint Ricketts. Toronto will be happy to keep on rolling on their win streak, while the Crew will hate that they let their rivals steal 3 points from them.

Houston Dynamo 2 Vancouver Whitecaps 1

Houston continued their home dominance in week 11. They got an early goal agaisnt visiting Vancouver. Elis started the scoring in 15th minute. The home side got another goal in the second half, thanks to a Cubo Torres PK. Brek Shea scored for Vancouver late on, but they couldn’t find the equalizer. Houston will love that they continue to dominate at home, while Vancouver will wish they showed better in steamy Houston.

Toronto FC 3 Minnesota United 2

Minnesota looked to pull off an upset of high-flying Toronto FC. Toronto opened the scoring in the first half; Giovinco scored from the spot to give the home side the lead. Minnesota regrouped after half time. They found the equalizer in the 52nd minute; however, Toronto re-took the lead not a minute later. Minnesota tied the game again, thanks to a Kevin Molino put back after a penalty save. Toronto ended up taking all three points off a Tosaint Rickets header. Minnesota will be mad they couldn’t salvage a point from the match, while Toronto will love riding a six game win streak.

Colorado Rapids 3 San Jose Earthquakes 0

Colorado shook off their recent struggles, blowing out San Jose. Gashi opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Badji added at the end of the first half, then assisted Gashi’s second. San Jose were nowhere to be found in the match. Despite having more possession and shots San Jose couldn’t find anything. They have been a real slide recently. San Jose will need to take the time to turn things around, while Colorado will hope to build on their victory.

Montreal Impact 2 Columbus Crew SC 3

Montreal tried to gain some ground on the rest of the east against Columbus. Unfortunately they ran into a hot Justin Meram. He opened the scoring in the 14th minute; he doubled Columbus’ lead at the 30 minute mark. In the second half Montreal came back. Piatti cut the lead in half in the 52nd minute. Montreal found the equalizer in the 77th minute. The game looked done-and-dusted, then Meram found space in the box. A Columbus counter attack, and Meram’s first touch finish, gave Columbus all three points. Columbus will love that they fought and won, while Montreal will hate being beat in the 90th minute at home.

DC United 0 Philadelphia Union 4

The Union followed up their first win of 2017 by blowing out their rivals at their place. The Union dominated the match. Haris Medunjanin opened the scoring in the first half. Then after DC’s Acosta got sent off, the Union found three more goals. Onyewu, Fafa, and Herbers all found the back of the net. DC had little chances after going a man down. The Union will love getting all three points from their rivals on their last ever trip to RFK stadium, while DC will need to regroup to get back to their winning ways.

Orlando City SC 2 Sporting Kansas City 2

This was the match of the week! SKC started it off with a bang, scoring the opener in the ninth minute, thanks to a Latif Blessing tap in. Cyle Larin tied the match six minutes later for Orlando; then, Kaka gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute. Latif Blessing  found his second tap in to tie the game and split the points between the two sides. Orlando is still unbeaten at home, but they will be upset at not getting all three points. SKC will gladly take the road point!

New England Revolution 4 Real Salt Lake 0

New England put the rout on RSL. Scoring goals in the fourth minute, 18th minute, 34th minute and 40th minute. They dominated possession in the first half, and then sat back in the second. RSL finally came alive in the second half, but couldn’t find the back of the net. RSL will need to find a way to fix their woeful season, while New England will try to build off their big win.

Chicago Fire 4 Seattle Sounders 1

Chicago had their first sell out at Toyota Park in years as they played the Sounders. The home side found the opener from the spot. Nikolic put home the effort; soon after Seattle found the equalizer through Clint Dempsey, and the game looked to be close. Then Chicago broke away. David Accam scored in the 60th minute, Luis Solignac in the 73rd and Nikolic in the 75th secured Chicago’s victory. Seattle will wish they had been able to stop Chicago’s counter attack, while Chicago will love getting all three points over the reigning MLS champions.

Portland Timbers 1 Atlanta United 1

Atlanta traveled to Portland for the first time trying to cut the timbers. The first half was both teams figuring things out. The second half started with a bang. Atlanta’s Julian Gressel scored in the first minute of the second half. Atlanta saw their lead go away four minutes later. After some bad defending by Atlanta on a corner. Atlanta will be mad that their one bit of bad defending cost them the win, while Portland will be glad they fought through the match to tie, and push the game at the end.

New York Red Bulls 1 LA Galaxy 3

The Red Bulls continue their struggles, and LA snapped theirs in week 11. Romain Alessandrini scored for LA in the seventh and ninth minute to give them a demanding lead. A second half Giovani Dos Santos penalty saw the Red bulls down three. The Red Bulls pushed at the end of the game, and in the second minute of stoppage time Daniel Royer got a goal for Red Bulls, but it was too late to salvage the match. New York will have to fix their ways going forward, while LA will hope this win puts an end to their struggles.

FC Dallas 1 New York City FC 1

Dallas looked to keep their unbeaten 2017 going against NYCFC. 20 minutes in Dallas found the opener. Kellyn Acosta scored the goal, and Dallas looked to hold NYCFC in check. They did for a while, then Tommy McNamara scored his type of goal. Flinging his body at a deflected ball and the Dallas keeper winning the ball, and following it in the net. His effort helped NYCFC capture a point. NYCFC will love getting a point in Dallas, while Dallas will wish they had been able to hold onto all three points.
