According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, the Eagles are signing another former CFL cornerback to their roster. After Aaron Grymes turned plenty of heads during the preseason, it looks as though the Eagles plan on adding even more CFL talent to their roster.
The man in question is Mitchell White, formerly of the Ottawa Redblacks. The 26-year old has 4 career interceptions in the CFL, with 3 coming in 2016, making 38 tackles in the process. All of this, despite missing the opening five games.
According to the report, White worked out with numerous NFL teams, including the Texans, Bears, Jets and Bengals. But the standout cornerback only had eyes for the City Of Brotherly Love.
“We both did well and I had numerous NFL offers to choose from. Having options was nice, but in the end, I had to make my choice. I thought my best opportunity was with the Philadelphia Eagles, and I look forward to joining the team in April. “
White’s agent is said to believe that the signing bonus is the highest ever paid to a CFL cornerback. The two-year deal will see White compete for a roster spot during the offseason in a corps that craves depth and consistency. A perfect proving ground for Steve Weinberg’s client.
Formerly of Michigan State, White served primarily as a special teams ace during that period, before eventually landing in the NFL for a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders. After failing to make the roster, he found himself winning the Grey Cup with the Ottawa Redblacks..a story that has plenty of twists and turns in its own right, and one we will focus on in depth over the coming weeks.
The 5’11 corner is set to join the team during the offseason and will compete alongside former CFL star Aaron Grymes for those precious and sought after spots on the final 53-man roster.
