Cedric Thornton among 5 Eagles injuries

The Eagles returned to the NovaCare Complex less than 24 hours after being humiliated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with every intention of making sure they’re 100% ready to face the Detroit lions on Thursday.

However, they could well be short-handed  for the Thursday Night Football Contest as three players sat out practice today and a further two were limited.

Two of the three injuries should come as no surprise. Zach Ertz was out with a concussion following this very awkward landing that worried fans and analysts alike. He got up of his own accord and is now undergoing the NFL’s Concussion protocol, meaning we could see Trey Burton in the lineup on Thursday.

Ryan Mathews was the other player absent who is still undergoing concussion protocol but was also reported to have a groin injury. Mathews has had groin problems all season so perhaps this is a little more serious than we think. Mathews is expected to return next week.

The third injury however does come as a surprise, defensive end Cedric Thornton. Thornton sat out today with an ankle injury sustained last night. Severity and current time frame of which we can expect a return remain unknown.

Two players were limited in todays practice, Quarterback Sam Bradford and Jason Peters. Peters did play in yesterdays game after becoming a gameday decision but was limited in todays activities as was Bradford.

Bradford kept his arms by his side where possible according to various reports and whilst signs are encouraging, there’s only three days until the team face the Lions so expecting him to be 100% by then is perhaps a little too much.
