Flyers Weekly Mailbag: Who wins 3C And 4C spots?

USATSI_11269319_168382939_lowres

The whistles are blowing, the goal horns are sounding once again. Hockey is back in full force, and the Flyers are 3-1 in pre-season play thus far.

Yes, a new mascot may be on the horizon for the orange and black, as they have only had a few mascots named Freddy Flyer, and Slapshot back in 1976. Moreover, this is a don of a new era of the patient, in-house grooming machine that the Flyers are now. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions.

Sean Couturier fortunately began skating the day Rookie Camp opened on Monday September 10, 2018. Thank God we all can breathe a sigh of relief. Couturier said in his presser that he was on schedule for opening day, and that he would like to resume full contact, while trying to get used to the new knee brace. However, Couturier also said the Flyers were being cautious, and were not rushing him. This is great news, and the clip below is Couturier in orange from last Friday’s Training Camp:

Eric without you this site doesn’t exist. I appreciate your support, and God bless you and your family.

3C- Jordan Weal

4C- Mikhail Vorobyev

I thought Vorobyev, much like yourself, would see time with the big club at some point in the 2018-19 season. However, I will be honest I did not expect him to win a job outright of camp. I thought he would come into his own at camp, but I’m pleasantly surprised. He’s a good penalty killer to boot, as Vorobyev isn’t afraid to take the puck up the ice while being a man short either.

Weal doesn’t surprise me one bit, as I’ve been clamoring for him to win the 3C position throughout the entire off-season. Hextall mentioned his name many times as a possible 3C throughout the off-season, and to me that was every indication the Flyers were going to give him the best shot to win it.

Sam thanks so much for your support. Without you this site doesn’t exist today. God bless you and your family.

I think Jordan Weal is primed for a big season. Now that he seems comfortable in that Center position, he could pot 18 goals, and 12 assists. Moreover, Wayne Simmonds will also have a bounce-back year. In my opinion he will pot 30-35 goals, and chip in 20 assists. I mean the guy tallied 24 goals in an injury-riddled season.

When Andrew McDonald returns I think the odd man out on the back end is Robert Hagg. He has been less than spectacular this pre-season, and that’s putting it nicely. Honestly, I’m shocked at his regression beings that he just signed a new contract. To me he seems too comfortable with Amac being hurt. For these reasons, I would keep Phillippe Myers with the big club for the entire season, as he’s earned that.

Bill you’re an inspiration, as you’re full of hockey knowledge. I appreciate your support. This site doesn’t exist without you.

At one point I thought the Flyers would waive Michal Neuvirth. I still think there’s a chance that happens. Although, I’m going against my gut here, and saying it will be a Brian Elliott/Neuvirth tandem to start the season. Anthony Stolarz, Carter Hart, and the brief time Alex Lyon played…all have done well. We shall see how it plays out, but I would love nothing more than four goalies, not five.

It’s ashame Lyon will miss four weeks with a lower body injury. This might have been his best shot at stealing the job from Neuvirth.

Mister you have been amazing. I appreciate your support. God bless you and your family. Without you this site doesn’t exist.

The Flyers will split the four game series between these two rivalries. The Flyers will go 2-1-1. There is always one overtime or shootout thriller it seems with these two clubs.

Tommy your support is amazing. Your the man. Without you this site doesn’t exist. God bless you and your family.

I think it’s ashame everytime a young prospect may get a shot they get hurt. This time I’m referring to Alex Lyon, possibly unsuiting Michal Neuvirth with the backup position. Lyon will miss four weeks with a lower body injury. At some point I think it will work itself out with Goaltending conundrum, but to start the season I think they start with five goalies.

Freddy Flyer seemed to disappear in the ’70’s, as well as, Slapshot in1976. Honestly, I have no idea what the new mascot is for all I know it could be Bryzgalov in a space suit. I mean were still paying him so why not right haha just kidding.

Fortunately, the young man Yegor Zamula signed an ELC yesterday, as you are aware ny now. He did return to the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL following thereafter. You can never have too many Defenseman in your pipeline, and this young man definitely earned this contract.

I don’t know the details behind the demotion of Chris Therien. I say demotion because he may or may not be moved elsewhere in the broadcast. According to an article on Philly.com, Therien said in a Facebook video, “I’m disappointed about the upcoming season not going the way I thought it was going to go.” If NBC looks to fill this void, then look for Bill Clement or Keith Jones to grab that spot. NBC never said they would fill Therien’s vacancy.

In an interview back in December Carter Hart told me his favorite game day meal is chicken penne alfredo or any type of pasta. His favorite meal is also any type of pasta, or the sesame chicken at PF Chang’s. This young man is dynamite on the ice, so he should keep eating whatever he’s been eating.

Rob you’re amazing. Thank you very much for your support. God bless you and your family. Without you this site doesn’t exist.

@babzilla- For the next mailbag:
What do you think about Hart camp so far ?
Based on the preseason, do you think Giroux will tie or exceed his production of last season ?

Carter Hart has been phenomenal thus far in the pre-season. One couldn’t have expected his first pre-season, or first taste at the pro level to go any better. He has opened some eyes to the top brass, but Hart will be sent to the AHL for seasoning/acclimate to pressure in pro’s, at least to start the season.

Claude Giroux will set another career high in points. He will finish this coming season with 106 points, four points higher than last season. Playing with Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny the whole season sure helps, as they had great chemistry last season together as a unit. Giroux is the engine that runs the Flyers, and he will once again place the orange and black on his shoulders into the playoffs.
