The Philadelphia Eagles have made a very interesting roster move today, signing a familiar quarterback to many fans of the team.

That man is Christian Hackenberg. A former second-round pick out of Penn State, Hackenberg is a name who will not only ring a bell with Eagles fans due to his alma-mater, but he was after all a name in the conversation when the Eagles were looking for the future of their franchise, before trading up for Carson Wentz.

Hackenberg’s NFL career has been turbulent at best. After recently being waived by the Raiders, Hackenberg moves a little closer to home.

After starting 38 games at Penn State, he finished as the all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdowns. The 6’4, 228 lbs, quarterback was drafted by the Jets but never played in a regular season game, with accuracy evading the signal-caller as it did in College.

However, Hackenberg remains just 23-years old and does have a high ceiling. Signing so late into camp will be a huge disadvantage, but with Foles likely sidelined due to muscle spasms and Wentz missing preseason, only Sudfeld and Callahan are splitting quarterback reps. Having someone to coordinate the third-string offense and potentially become another developmental arm is a strong move for the Eagles, especially if such a strong coaching staff can iron out those errors the that have plagued his career.

The downside is that Ian Park, the offensive lineman who famously went viral by singing the Halo theme, has been waived due to injury to make room.
