Three trade scenarios that see the Sixers shifting the heavy contract of Jerryd Bayless

The 76ers desperately want to get rid of Jerryd Bayless’ contract before the season starts. He is owed nearly $8.6 million this upcoming season. The team was reportedly considering a buyout until rumors started swirling that they were trying to trade him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for veteran shooter and former Sixer, Kyle Korver. If the Sixers decided that they didn’t want to buy him out and trading him was the way to go, there are some possible deals out there that could be made.

Sixers And Korver Reunite

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Kyle Korver

Cleveland Cavaliers receive: Jerryd Bayless, 2019 2nd round pick from Milwaukee or Sacramento (more favorable)

This trade ends up working out for both sides. The Sixers dump Bayless’ contract and add a veteran shooter who has valuable playoff experience and can help stretch the floor for Simmons and Embiid. Korver, who is owed $7.5 million in 2019-2020, could be a cheap replacement if the 76ers don’t resign J.J. Reddick that season. The Cavs would could use Bayless in a mentor role for Collin Sexton and they’d be freeing up some cap space in 2019-2020, where they could look to add a star to play with Kevin Love. They’d also be adding a pick to their small stockpile as they enter a post-LeBron era (again).

Iman Shumpert returns to the East Coast

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Iman Shumpert

Sacramento Kings receive: Jerryd Bayless

Despite having a rough ending in his time with the Cavs, Shumpert is still a versatile defender who can knock down an open 3. With Zhaire Smith suddenly going down(the rookie curse is real!), Shumpert could fill the two-way role that Smith would have. Shumpert could be particularly valuable for the Sixers come playoff time.

The Kings have 3 young point guards that could benefit from having a veteran like Jerryd Bayless around. Just because Bayless didn’t work out in Philly doesn’t mean that he’s a bad player. Bayless owns career averages of 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Not too shabby for a second or third string guard. Bayless could be a good fit in David Joerger’s system and play at either guard spot.

Sixers Make some Magic happen

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Terrence Ross

Orlando Magic recieve: Jerryd Bayless

The Magic don’t have any ball handlers aside from D.J. Augustin and Jerian Grant.  Bayless would give them another playmaker and spot up shooter, which they’re also lacking. With the addition of Melvin Frazier, losing Terrence Ross wouldn’t hurt them much.

While Ross did struggle shooting from deep last season (32%), he’s a career 37% shooter from beyond the arc. He’ll benefit from having more open looks on a Sixers team full of dynamic playmakers. Ross’ athleticism is something that the 76ers would find very valuable since they like to run at a fast tempo.

While Bayless may not have much value to the Sixers, he still might have some for other teams. Hopefully, the 76ers and Bayless find a resolution soon. The new season is right around the corner.
