Following a documented arrest earlier today, the Philadelphia Eagles have released cornerback Daryl Worley.

Found passed out in a car at 6AM by Philadelphia police, the former Carolina Panther reportedly became combative and was eventually tasered. A gun was also found at the scene.

For the Eagles, this marks the second arrest of the offseason. Michael Bennet’s Super Bowl 51 incident attracted national attention just a few weeks ago and now the team have a second arrest on their hands for a violent incident. For a team that was able to go through an entire season without a single off-the-field incident, this is worrying to say the least with two new additions both catching the wrong kind of attention. And that alone is why this move was so important.

Worley was acquired in a trade that sent Torrey Smith to the Panthers, shaving a large amount of salary weight and picking up some developmental depth. Worley wasn’t an instrumental piece of the defense, although his experience in the nickel could’ve been very handy given the departure of Patrick Robinson.

So, where do the Eagles go from here? The team will most likely seek to add a cornerback in the draft. But don’t panic, we have a FREE 70-page guide to this year’s cornerback class. It details full scout reports on each player and evaluates their potential fit in the NFL.

There are a few free agent options remaining too. But that’s a story for another article.

As of right now, the Eagles are one man down but with the preservation of culture taking priority. Josh Huff was arrested in a similar instance and his time in Philadelphia ended just moments after. This is a no-nonsense organization and as Jim Schwartz quoted following the Nigel Bradham arrest ‘if you continue to do dumbass things, people will see you as a dumbass’.
