The Philadelphia Flyers are hoping to right the ship towards a level of consistency for the rest of the season. With seven games remaining on the calendar, the orange and black are hoping to make one final push towards the top of the Metropolitan Division standings. Just how are they going to do it? Well, do something Flyers fans haven’t been accustomed to all year. Relying on a sophmore stud in Travis Konecny, as he needs and deserves an expanded role.

Konency is an electrifying player. It’s like he’s doing the electric slide all night long on the ice. Konecny has been everything and then some here as of late. For instance, potting two goals in the Flyers 4-3 victory against the New York Rangers. He just has the knack of knowing where to be and when. His stats show he’s lethal, as he has potted 22 goals, managed 22 assists, and is an insane +16. Yes, I said it a +16. Moreover, Konecny has filthy hands, and he knows where to put the biscuit.

This young stud in Konecny was insane against the Washington Capitals this past Sunday. He did a little of bit of everything. Konecny blocked two bullets from Dmitry Orlov, and Christian Djoos in the third period. He was seen limping badly after blocking each shot respectively. Moreover, Konecny came out later in the third period to pump up his club by fighting Capitals Forward TJ Oshie, after Konecny was pissed about a non call earlier in the shift. These are just some of the little things this young man does on a nightly basis. Simply put, he throws his body into war each and every night.

I keep telling him, that’s what winners are made of,” Wayne Simmonds said following the game against the Capitals. That’s the type of effort we’re going to need out of every single guy in the this dressing room.” That’s pretty comforting to hear, especially when it comes from one of the most vocal leaders and leaders on the team for that matter.

Konecny got benched in the Flyers 4-3 victory against the Rangers. Why???? A simple mistake that resulted in a brutal turnover. Yes, Konecny will tell you he has to learn and get better. However, benching him in the third period with the game on the line…this will not and shouldn’t happen again. Mark my words. Konecny will not make the same mistake again, and he should be relied upon when the game is on the line. It will only help his development. With all the good he does. Konecny deserves to see ice in the third period.

After each game he’s a walking maintenance day because he never takes a shift off. He blocks bullet after bullet, as he leaves his heart and soul on the ice.

“It’s just about getting the two points,” Konecny stated following the big win against the Rangers. We’re going to make sure that defensively we’re going to take care of the pucks, little things like that. It’s part of doing things for the team and I have no problem with it, it’s a matter of getting the two points. If that’s the way we have got to win, we have to do it every time. Especially like tonight, we knew these guys were not up in the standings so they were just going to play hockey and keep it simple.”

Konecny is becoming an icon in Philadelphia. His heart and soul is winning over the proud orange clad fans of Philadelphia. It’s great to see just how hard this young man works on a nightly basis. However, Konecny needs and deserves an expanded role. A role that with the game on the line he’s relied upon. People have to believe Konecny’s unselfish play will start winning over his coaches alike from here on out. One thing is certain Flyers fans, the future is bright in Flyer land.
