1st Period Notes:
Flyers get pinned in their zone early but, just under 2 minutes in, Giroux hits Konecny with a beautiful outlet pass that leads to an easy breakaway goal. 1-0 Flyers.

Flyers go onto the PP at the 4:34 mark of the period for Too Many Men on the Ice. Decent pressure but the Devils managed to kill it off. Back to even strength.

Jimmy Hayes heads off the ice with an apparent shoulder/arm injury after taking a hit in the corner. Taylor Hall rings a shot off the post just after but can’t find twine.

Simmonds is assessed a High Sticking minor just over 10 minutes into the period even though he never made contact with Nico Hischier. The Flyers get a good short handed chance but can’t convert. Kill off the rest of the PK without much trouble.

Noesen mugs Neuvirth after trying to deflect a shot and is called for goaltender interference. Flyers with multiple wide open net chances bthat they can’t convert on before Couturier is called for tripping. Another weak call. Flyers kill off the penalty and it’s back to even strength.

Devils control the last few minutes of the period but Neuvirth is up to the task. Flyers lead 1-0 after the 1st.

2nd Period Notes:
The Devils come out firing and Taylor Hall somehow manages to squeak a puck behind Neuvirth from behind the goal line just over 4 minutes into the period. He is completely demolished in the corner after the goal by Gudas and heads directly down the tunnel. 1-1.

Laughton answers just 43 seconds later on a quick shot from the crease. They’ve had a weak net front presence to this point and were instantly rewarded for going there. 2-1 Flyers.

Both teams start to ramp up the aggression and are rewarded with minor penalties. Gostisbehere for Cross-Checking, Wood for Roughing. The resulting 4-on-4 doesn’t result in any goals scored.

Gudas throws a puck at the net and puts the Flyers up 3-1. He hadn’t scored this year until a game ago and now has a goal in back-to-back games.

Couturier is assessed a 2 minute minor for tripping less than 30 seconds after Gudas scored. Moore rips home a shot from the point and makes it 3-2 immediately following the end of the PK.

Weal is taken down in the corner by Zajac and the Flyers head to the PP. Giroux rips one home from his office on a beautiful cross ice pass from Voracek.

Nico Hischier puts one past Neuvirth just 10 minutes after the Giroux goal on a quick 2-on-1. 4-3 Flyers.

Zajac is hit up high with a stick but no penalty is called with 30 seconds left in the period. Whether it was a High-Stick by a Flyers player or an embellishment on Zajac’s part, a penalty should have been called. Shakey officiating to say the least tonight. The period ends 4-3.

3rd Period Notes:
Lappin is called for a High-Stick. Flyers see their first PP just 2:26 into the period. Kinkaid is peppered with shots but manages to escape the penalty kill with the deficit at 1.

Both teams are playing wide open hockey as the period reaches the halfway mark. Kinkaid and Neuvirth have earned their paychecks tonight.

Konecny is leveled as he’s cross-checked from behind and into the boards but there’s no call. The officiating in this one has been absolutely terrible.

Wood is called for a hook after he chopped at Konecny’s hands while he was on a breakaway, Flyers to the PP. They don’t manage to make anything happen and it’s back to even strength.

Hall scores off a Hischier rebound to tie the game with 1:21 remaining. The period ends tied at 4 and heads to OT.

Overtime Notes:
Giroux has a great chance to shoot 1:30 into the OT period but elects to pass to Voracek and it’s broken up. Ill-advised to say the least.

Flyers get a beautiful chance to end it with just over a minute left but Kinkaid read the cross crease pass from Giroux perfectly.

The Devils take a timeout with 39.8 seconds remaining. Both goalies are up to the task in OT and we head to a shootout.
