How about those Philadelphia Flyers????? After a fan rocking parade from your Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. The orange and black came out to a roaring 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. With the victory, it sends the high flying Flyers on a two game winning streak.

The Flyers have been searching for more consistency since the season began. They know that’s what will eventually seal their playoff fate. Hopefully, this team has turned the corner in regards to consistency, and if this week is any indication of such then it looks like they have. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions in this weeks Flyers Weekly Mailbag.

Steve what a smoking hot question from a passionate die hard fan like yourself. The Flyers cannot go speed for speed against teams like the Lightning or the New York Rangers. They need a beefy, skilled middle six winger immediately. Isaac Ratcliffe, Wade Allison, and Matthew Strome are 2-3 years away, and until they arrive the Flyers will not be serious contenders until they fix this issue.

From what I’ve been gathering around the NHL, it’s going to take a ton in order to acquire one. The only beefy winger I would like to see the Flyers acquire would be a 225 pound lumberjack in Anthony Mantha from the Detroit Red Wings. He currently has 16 goals, and 14 assists for a total of 30 points in 50 games played. Mantha has a favorable cap hit of $863,333, and is in the last year of his contract. If I’m General Manager Ron Hextall, I’m at least giving the Red Wings a call regarding his services.

The Flyers are horrendous on the penalty kill. Hextall could make a trade for either Michael Grabner of the New York Rangers or Jean- Gabriel Pageau of the lowly Ottawa Senators. Who knows if the Rangers would make a deal within the division, but Grabner has great hands on top of being an excellent penalty killer. For the season, Grabner has tallied 21 goals, and 6 assists in 53 games played.

Pageau is a young playmaker that is only 25 years old. His current cap hit is $660,000, and currently plays for the lowly Ottawa Senators. At this point many people are expendable in Ottawa (45 points), and at the right price the Flyers would receive an excellent penalty killer at the forward position. For the season, Pageau has tallied 7 goals, and 10 assists for a total of 17 points in 47 games played.
