The Eagles may have emerged victorious on Sunday, but they lost a vital backfield cog in the process. Darren Sproles left the game early on with what was widely reported as a wrist injury and later a broken arm that woul need an MRI. Today, the damage appears even more severe.

The 34-year old was said to be contemplating retirement at the end of this season following a 13-year career. A torn ACL may all but force his hand.

The little engine that could amassed 61 rushing yards during the opening three games of the season, adding to his incredible career rushing tally of 3,366 yards and 22 touchdowns.

One of the most dangerous dual-threat backs that the league has ever seen, losing Sproles for the year will hurt the Eagles, but the idea of the NFL losing his services forever is a tough pill to swallow.

If the news is true, the Eagles would be down to just three running backs after initially carrying five into the regular season. It’s a situation that is likely going to see some minor moves and shakes over the next few weeks.

This is a developing story, so stay tuned to Philly Sports Network for the latest updates.
