Eagles search for new Coordinators is history repeating itself

This time last week, what seemed to be a promising search for Chip Kelly’s replacement began to deteriorate quickly for the Philadelphia Eagles..first Adam Gase was hired by the Miami Dolphins and then Ben McAdoo took a promotion from the G-Men. Finally, Tom Coughlin turned down the Eagles which meant the birds were down to in house options or Doug Pederson after they stopped the interview process…the result, was this.

For fans, this is both a worrying and exciting period. A new Head Coaching era is on the horizon and whilst there may be doubts, it’s surely a step in the right direction for many reasons and the start of a new hope…but the Eagles don’t want history to repeat itself.

If we list the supposed candidates for both Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, you’ll see what I mean.

DC
Jim Schwartz: Interviewing in Jacksonville
Mike Pettine: No longer a candidate
Steve Spagnulo- denied interview by Giants

OC
Frank Reich: Lost his job in San Diego
Brad Childress: Reportedly staying in Kansas

Anyone else noticing a pattern? The Eagles once again have a list of impressive candidates who are rapidly slipping through their fingers via interviews with other teams or a failure to open negotiations.

With Pederson having no Head Coach experience at the NFL level until now, it’s imperative that the Eagles get this right to give him as much support as they can. With Billy Davis likely leaving and Shurmur’s future clouded (which is ridiculous), the Eagles have to act fast because if they don’t, they could well end up with a 4th choice Head Coach, coordinators who were not their first choice or best fit and a very worrying period for the organization.

The Eagles have already had a wobbly search to find Chip Kelly’s replacement..they simply can’t afford to allow the same thing to happen again.
